About Me
Dr. Michael Ammar is a vitreoretinal surgeon who cares for people with conditions affecting the retina and vitreous, including macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, macular holes, and retinal detachments. Patients describe his style as thorough and easy to follow—he explains what testing shows, why a treatment is recommended, and what to expect from procedures such as injections, laser, or surgery.
Fellowship-trained in vitreoretinal disease and surgery at Wills Eye Hospital and board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology, Dr. Ammar trained in ophthalmology at the University of Pennsylvania and earned his medical degree from the Keck School of Medicine of USC. He provides care in English and Spanish and partners closely with your referring eye doctor to coordinate follow-up and long-term monitoring. His goal is to preserve and, when possible, improve vision using evidence-based care delivered with clear communication and respect for each patient’s priorities.
