About Me
Dr. Gariano is a fellowship-trained ophthalmologist who diagnoses and treats all medical and surgical aspects of retinal disease, including retinal detachment, diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, macular pucker, and macular hole. He also provides care for patients with vascular, infectious, inflammatory, and cancer-related eye conditions.
In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Gariano is actively involved in clinical research studying macular degeneration and abnormal vascular growth in the eye. He is on staff at the Scripps Research Institute, where his research focuses on diabetic retinopathy, and he has authored multiple publications in clinical and scientific journals.
Dr. Gariano is dedicated to patient education, ensuring patients understand their conditions and can participate actively in their care. He has been honored with teaching awards for his work with doctors-in-training at Yale and Stanford University Medical Schools, and he volunteers at the Veterans Hospital in La Jolla, treating patients and training residents.
