About Me
Melissa Yuan, MD, is a vitreoretinal surgery fellow and clinical instructor at Stanford Medicine’s Byers Eye Institute. She cares for patients with a wide range of retinal conditions, offering timely diagnosis, advanced imaging, and surgical treatment tailored to each person’s goals. Dr. Yuan earned her medical degree at Weill Cornell Medicine, where she co-directed community eye-screening outreach across New York City, and completed ophthalmology residency with Harvard Ophthalmology before joining Stanford for fellowship training. Her clinical interests include retinopathy of prematurity, retinal vascular disease, macular disorders, and complex retinal detachment. She values clear communication and shared decision-making so patients understand options and feel supported at every step. In addition to clinical care, Dr. Yuan’s research explores pediatric and adult retinal diseases, and she frequently presents at national meetings. Patients can expect a careful, compassionate approach that integrates the newest evidence with the practical details that matter in everyday life.
