About Me
Dr. Matt R. Starr is an ophthalmologist with specialty training in vitreoretinal surgery. He manages vitreoretinal diseases such as diabetic retinopathy, retinal vascular disease, and age-related macular degeneration. His surgical expertise includes the management of complex disorders relating to retinal detachment, proliferative vitreoretinopathy, diabetic tractional retinal detachment, and ocular trauma. Dr. Starr also performs procedures for dislocated crystalline and intra-ocular lenses requiring lens exchange with scleral fixation techniques.
Dr. Starr is active in clinical and translational research, medical education, and patient safety and quality improvement initiatives. He provides mentorship to medical students, residents, and fellows. As the Ophthalmology residency program director, he focuses on identifying techniques to improve surgical training using standardized teaching metrics. His research includes clinical trials focusing on surgical vitreoretinal disorders, diabetic retinopathy, and macular degeneration, as well as population-based, large-scale database research to improve real-world outcomes of vitreoretinal diseases.
