About Me
Dr. Matt R. Starr is a vitreoretinal surgeon whose practice spans medical and surgical care for complex retinal disease. He manages diabetic retinopathy, retinal vascular disease and age-related macular degeneration and performs procedures such as vitrectomy, scleral buckling and lens exchange with scleral fixation for dislocated intraocular lenses. His work also focuses on surgical management of retinal detachments and ocular trauma, with an emphasis on outcomes and patient safety.
In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Starr serves as Ophthalmology Residency Program Director and is active in clinical trials, translational research and education. He completed a vitreoretinal surgery fellowship at Wills Eye Hospital after ophthalmology residency at Mayo Clinic and earned his medical degree from Saint Louis University. He strives to provide careful explanations, collaborative decision-making and follow-through that helps patients and families feel informed and supported through treatment and recovery.
