Dr. Lulwa El Zein

Eric J. Kim, MD, is a pediatric ophthalmologist at Mayo Clinic who cares for children with complex corneal, cataract, and glaucoma conditions, as well as patients of all ages with strabismus. He offers both medical and surgical treatments tailored to growing eyes and developing visual systems, and coordinates closely with families to make care plans that fit school, sports, and daily life. His operative focus includes pediatric cataract and glaucoma surgery, corneal cross-linking for keratoconus, corneal transplantation when needed, and strabismus surgery for children and adults. Dr. Kim serves as an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology and enjoys teaching medical students, residents, and fellows. Before joining the pediatric ophthalmology team at Mayo Clinic, he completed rigorous training in ophthalmology and advanced work in pediatric anterior segment surgery. Patients appreciate his clear explanations, calm approach in the clinic and operating room, and commitment to evidence-based care backed by ongoing academic scholarship.

Dr. Maggie Strampe is a pediatric ophthalmologist who cares for children and adults with strabismus. She understands that doctor visits can feel intimidating for kids and uses play and encouragement to make exams comfortable and fun. Her clinical interests include amblyopia, congenital cataract, blocked tear ducts and disorders of eye alignment across the lifespan. She works closely with families to explain options and create treatment plans that fit each child’s needs and routines. Dr. Strampe completed ophthalmology residency at the University of Iowa followed by a fellowship in Pediatric Ophthalmology and Adult Strabismus at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. She earned her medical degree from the University of Minnesota and previously completed undergraduate studies in French at the University of Minnesota. Having grown up in the Twin Cities, she is grateful to provide specialty eye care in the community she calls home.

Dr. Tommaso Vagaggini is a retina specialist and vitreoretinal surgeon with Retina Consultants of Minnesota. He cares for adults with medical and surgical diseases of the retina, macula, and vitreous, including age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal tears and detachments, and complex macular disorders. Patients can expect careful examination, clear explanations, and a treatment plan that may include advanced imaging, office-based injections or laser, and, when needed, modern retinal surgery. Dr. Vagaggini graduated summa cum laude from Fordham University and earned his medical degree at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, where he was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha and the Gold Humanism Honor Society. He completed internship in internal medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital and ophthalmology residency at the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary of Mount Sinai. He joined Retina Consultants of Minnesota in 2022 and is committed to delivering accessible, evidence-based retinal care across the region.
