About Me

Prof. Marco Mura is a vitreoretinal surgeon with more than two decades of international experience treating complex retinal disease. A Full Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Ferrara and Chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology at Arcispedale Sant’Anna, he cares for patients with conditions such as retinal detachment, macular holes, epiretinal membranes, vitreomacular traction, diabetic retinopathy, and age-related macular degeneration. He is also a skilled cataract surgeon and is known for a precise, patient-first approach. Prof. Mura completed retina fellowship training at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London and a vitreoretinal surgery fellowship at the Academic Medical Center of the University of Amsterdam. He has held leadership and faculty roles in Europe, the Middle East, and the United States, including positions at the University of Amsterdam, King Khaled Eye Specialist Hospital, and the Wilmer Eye Institute at Johns Hopkins. He remains active in clinical research and surgical innovation and takes time to explain every step so patients feel informed and confident.
