Meet Dr. Ammar N Safar

Dr. Ammar Safar is an American Board-Certified Ophthalmologist specializing in vitreoretinal diseases and surgery at Moorfields Eye Hospital Dubai in Dubai Healthcare City. He serves as the Chief Medical Officer of Moorfields Eye Hospitals in the United Arab Emirates and holds an adjunct professorship in Ophthalmology at Mohammad Bin Rashed University. Dr. Safar is also a GCAA Approved Specialist Aviation Medical Examiner, providing specialized eye care for aviation professionals.

Dr. Safar completed his medical training in Syria before pursuing post-graduate training in the United States. He specialized in Ophthalmology at Georgetown University in Washington, DC, where he also served as Chief Resident. He then undertook a two-year fellowship in Vitreoretinal Diseases and Surgery at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. Dr. Safar went on to hold academic and leadership positions, including Director of Vitreoretinal Surgery at the University of Arkansas, before relocating to the UAE.

His clinical and research interests focus on retinal conditions, including diabetic retinopathy and age-related macular degeneration. Dr. Safar has conducted clinical trials and published extensively, contributing to advances in the management of retinal vascular diseases. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of several professional societies, including the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Retina Specialists.
