About Me

Dr. Loka Thangamathesvaran is a board-certified vitreoretinal surgeon dedicated to compassionate, thorough care for diseases of the retina and vitreous. Selected for Rutgers University’s combined BA/MD program (graduating summa cum laude), she completed ophthalmology residency and vitreoretinal fellowship at the Johns Hopkins Wilmer Eye Institute. She has authored peer-reviewed publications and presented nationally on topics including diabetic retinopathy, intravitreal therapy, and sickle cell retinopathy. Her excellence in training was recognized with the Morton and Myrna Goldberg Prize, and she later received the prestigious Heed Ophthalmic Foundation Fellowship. At Pacific Northwest Retina, Dr. Thangamathesvaran treats common and complex retinal conditions and tailors plans that help patients understand their disease and participate in shared decision-making. She speaks English and Tamil and enjoys exploring the Pacific Northwest with her family.
