About Me
Dr. Nicolaas P. DeRuyter is a vitreoretinal surgeon with interests in advanced imaging and modern techniques for complex retinal disease. He cares for patients with age-related macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease, retinal vein occlusions, epiretinal membranes, macular holes, and retinal detachments, and also manages challenging lens-related problems. Dr. DeRuyter has a special interest in pediatric vitreoretinal conditions, including retinopathy of prematurity and inherited disorders, and works closely with families to guide timely care.
Originally from the Yakima Valley, Dr. DeRuyter completed medical school at the University of Washington, ophthalmology residency at the Vanderbilt Eye Institute—where he served as chief resident—and a surgical retina fellowship at Vanderbilt. He is board-certified and excited to serve patients across Pacific Northwest Retina’s Seattle-area locations with clear explanations, coordinated care, and treatment plans tailored to each patient’s needs.
