About Me
Dr. Joshua Heczko is a board-certified and fellowship-trained ophthalmologist specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of eye disorders. He earned his undergraduate degree from the University of California, Berkeley, and his medical degree from Loma Linda University in California. He completed his ophthalmology residency at Nassau University Medical Center in New York where he served as Chief Resident and completed fellowships in Ocular Pathology and Research at the University of Utah and Cornea, External Disease and Refractive surgery at Loma Linda University. Prior to joining Heritage Eye Center, he served as a clinical instructor teaching cataract surgery to ophthalmology residents and worked as an emergency ruptured globe surgeon.
Dr. Heczko has advanced training in cataract surgery, corneal transplants, and laser refractive surgeries including LASIK and PRK. He has specialized expertise in keratoconus treatment including collagen crosslinking. His clinical interests also include complex corneal diseases and dry eye syndrome. He has authored over two dozen papers and abstracts in fields such as cataract surgery, glaucoma, macular degeneration, and dry eye syndrome. His research has received awards from multiple ophthalmic societies including the American Academy of Ophthalmology Best Video, American Glaucoma Society Surgical Video Award Winner, and American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery Best Paper of Session.
With a background in researching advanced surgical devices and surgery techniques in animal models prior to human FDA trials, Dr. Heczko takes a special interest in state-of-the-art advances within ophthalmology. He is a compassionate and personable individual who takes great pleasure in bringing happiness to the people around him. Outside of medicine, he enjoys golfing, playing tennis, snowboarding, following professional sports, and is an avid reader.
