About Me
Dr. Joseph Terrence Kavanagh is a board-certified ophthalmologist and fellowship-trained glaucoma specialist at Eye Associates of South Texas. He specializes in cataract and LASIK surgery, as well as medical and surgical glaucoma management. Dr. Kavanagh is known for performing no-needle, no-stitch micro-incision cataract surgery, which allows patients to return to normal activities quickly. He has performed well over twenty thousand cataract procedures and is skilled in laser cataract surgery and advanced technology lens implants, including toric, multifocal, and depth-of-focus options.
In addition to cataract and refractive surgery, Dr. Kavanagh offers advanced glaucoma treatments and was the first surgeon in South Texas to implant the Hydrus Microstent. He is an expert in MicroInvasive Glaucoma Surgeries (MIGS) and regularly performs glaucoma laser and surgical treatments. Dr. Kavanagh also performs cosmetic and functional eyelid surgery, including upper and lower lid blepharoplasty. He has over 20 years of experience in refractive surgery and utilizes the latest technology, such as the Alcon refractive suite with FS200 flap maker and EX500 Excimer laser.
Dr. Kavanagh has served as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at the UTHSC San Antonio and was Chief of Ophthalmology at the Kerrville VAMC for over ten years. He has lectured nationally and internationally on glaucoma and cataracts and has authored numerous research publications. He is honored to have been voted one of San Antonio's Best Doctors by his peers.
