Dr. Jonathan Russell

Dr. Ravi R. Pandit is a fellowship-trained, board-certified retina specialist who cares for patients with diseases of the retina and vitreous. He provides both medical and surgical treatment, focusing on careful diagnosis and clear guidance for conditions that can threaten vision, from chronic retinal disease to urgent retinal problems. He completed ophthalmology residency training at the Wilmer Eye Institute at Johns Hopkins and pursued advanced fellowship training in vitreoretinal surgery at Wills Eye Hospital. Dr. Pandit also holds an MPH, supporting a comprehensive approach to patient care and outcomes. In addition to managing complex retinal disease, Dr. Pandit has a special interest in surgical retina and ophthalmic trauma. Patients can expect thoughtful counseling on options such as intraocular injections, retinal laser procedures, and vitreoretinal surgery when appropriate, with an emphasis on preserving vision and long-term eye health.

Kanwal Singh Matharu, MD, is an assistant professor and ophthalmologist at University of Iowa Health Care with expertise spanning cornea and external eye disease, refractive surgery, and uveitis. He values listening closely to patients’ concerns and partnering on solutions, noting that eyesight is precious and deserves thoughtful, individualized care. Dr. Matharu earned a BA in molecular biology from Princeton University and an MD from McGovern Medical School in Houston. He completed an ophthalmology residency at Baylor College of Medicine, followed by fellowships in Cornea, External Disease, and Refractive Surgery at UPMC and in Global Ophthalmology at Stanford University. His practice includes advanced corneal transplantation and reconstruction techniques, management of inflammatory eye disease, and vision-correcting procedures. He is committed to research and health-equity initiatives, and provides care at Iowa River Landing and the main medical center in Iowa City.

Dr. Austin L. Strohbehn is a board-certified, fellowship-trained retina specialist who provides medical and surgical care for diseases that affect the retina and macula. He treats conditions such as macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease, and retinal tears or detachment, with the goal of preserving vision and helping patients stay active and independent. A native Iowan, Dr. Strohbehn earned a B.S. in Biology from Iowa State University and received his medical degree from the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine. After completing an internship at the University of Missouri, he finished ophthalmology residency at the Mason Eye Institute at the University of Missouri, serving as chief resident, and then completed a vitreoretinal surgery fellowship at the same institution. He enjoys applying modern techniques to retinal care and is committed to clear communication so patients understand their diagnosis, options, and follow-up plan.
