About Me
Dr. Stephen R. Russell is an ophthalmologist specializing in vitreoretinal diseases and surgery at University of Iowa Health Care. He serves as Professor, Vitreoretinal Diseases and Surgery Service Director, and holds the Dina J. Schrage Professorship in Macular Degeneration Research. Dr. Russell provides expert care for a range of retinal conditions, including macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal detachment, macular holes, and inherited eye disorders. He also treats patients through the Retina and Vitreous Care clinic.
Dr. Russell earned his medical degree from the University of California, School of Medicine in Los Angeles, and completed a medical internship at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center. He pursued ophthalmology residency training at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami, followed by a retina fellowship at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. He is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and licensed in Iowa and California.
