About Me

Dr. Jinghua Chen, MD, PhD is a vitreoretinal surgeon and Assistant Professor who directs the Surgical Retina Fellowship at the University of Florida. She provides comprehensive medical and surgical retina care for adults and children, with special interest in inherited retinal disease, retinopathy of prematurity, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and complex retinal detachment. Her patient philosophy blends meticulous surgery with whole-person care, aiming to restore vision and quality of life through clear communication and thoughtful follow-up.Dr. Chen earned her MD and PhD from Peking University Health Science Center, completed an ophthalmology residency at the University of Louisville, and a vitreoretinal fellowship at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. Her research focuses on gene therapy, retinal implants, and the use of artificial intelligence and telemedicine to detect disease earlier and improve access to care. She is passionate about mentorship and innovation, and partners with families to tailor evidence-based treatment plans for each unique situation.
