About Me
Dr. Jonathan Hu is a retina and vitreous specialist at the University of Florida who cares for patients with conditions affecting the retina, macula, and vitreous. Raised in the Tampa Bay area, he completed college at Harvard University, then returned to Gainesville for medical school and ophthalmology residency at the University of Florida before pursuing advanced fellowship training in vitreoretinal surgery.
Dr. Hu chose ophthalmology—and retina in particular—because timely diagnosis and treatment can make a meaningful difference in a person’s vision, independence, and quality of life. He enjoys walking patients through what he sees on exams and imaging, and explaining why symptoms are happening and what options are available.
In addition to clinical care, Dr. Hu serves as Program Director for the ophthalmology residency program, helping train the next generation of physicians. He and his family are grateful to call Gainesville home and value being part of the UF community.
