About Me

Dr. Jie (Jim) Gao is a retina specialist who completed extensive training in ophthalmology. He moved to the United States from China as a child and grew up in Arkansas. Dr. Gao earned his Bachelor of Science summa cum laude from the University of California Davis and his medical doctorate with Alpha Omega Alpha honors from the University of Arkansas. He then completed a residency in general ophthalmology at Stony Brook University, where he served as chief resident.

Dr. Gao pursued fellowship training in ocular immunology and inflammatory diseases under a leading expert at Harvard Medical School, focusing on conditions like uveitis. He further specialized through a second fellowship in retinal disease and vitreoretinal surgery at Baylor College of Medicine, where he received an outstanding teaching award. This dual training allows him to manage complex retinal disorders with a comprehensive approach.

He has presented at national conferences and published research in medical journals. Outside of medicine, Dr. Gao enjoys spending time with his family, traveling, weight training, cooking, and learning about new cultures.
