About Me
Dr. Jed Assam is a board-certified ophthalmologist and fellowship-trained retina specialist dedicated to diagnosing and treating complex retinal disease. A Sioux Falls native, he is proud to care for patients in the community that inspired his path in medicine, combining advanced surgical skills with a calm, personable approach to every visit. His expertise spans medical and surgical retina, including the use of intravitreal injections, retinal laser procedures, and minimally invasive techniques tailored to each patient’s needs.
Dr. Assam completed ophthalmology residency training at the University of Texas Medical Branch, where he served as chief resident, followed by a two-year vitreoretinal surgery fellowship at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. He earned his MD from the USD Sanford School of Medicine and a master’s degree in Human Clinical Anatomy from Creighton University, building a strong foundation for precise, anatomy-guided care. He has participated in research at the intersection of vision science and flight safety and enjoys teaching medical trainees. Outside of clinic, he spends time outdoors hunting and fishing, and he loves cooking for friends and family.
