About Me
Dr. Jay Meyer is a glaucoma, cornea, and cataract surgeon at Eye Institute in New Zealand, committed to enhancing vision through minimally invasive and effective treatments. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology, a Master of Public Health, and a Doctor of Medicine with honors from the University of Utah School of Medicine. His ophthalmology residency was completed at the University of North Carolina, followed by specialized fellowship training in cornea and refractive surgery at Duke University Eye Centre and additional training in cornea and glaucoma at the University of Auckland.
Dr. Meyer is actively involved in clinical research, with over 60 scientific publications and book chapters, and he contributed to the identification of a novel bacterial species during his medical studies. He serves as a Senior Lecturer in Ophthalmology at the University of Auckland, educating optometrists, medical students, and ophthalmology trainees. He is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and holds memberships in professional societies including the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, and Cornea Society.
His surgical expertise includes advanced cataract surgery with astigmatism-correcting and multifocal lenses, corneal transplantation for various conditions, keratoconus treatments such as crosslinking, pterygium surgery, and comprehensive glaucoma management using laser and implant techniques. In his personal time, he enjoys family activities and sports.
