She joined Associated Retina Consultants in 2024 and brings extensive experience caring for patients with retinal detachments, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and complex vitreoretinal disease. Her philosophy centers on education and shared decision-making so each person understands their diagnosis and options. Dr. Tran completed both her ophthalmology residency and surgical retina fellowship at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute. She has practiced in academic and private settings, taught trainees as clinical faculty, and authored research in nationally and internationally recognized ophthalmology journals. Dr. Tran is board-certified in ophthalmology and is an active member of major retina and ophthalmology societies.

Dr. Setu Patel

Dr. Setu N. Patel is a vitreoretinal surgeon who cares for the full range of medical and surgical retina conditions. After completing a six-year combined BA/MD program, he pursued internship training in Indianapolis, ophthalmology residency at the University of Alabama, and a medical and surgical retina fellowship with Associated Retina Consultants in Arizona, where he now practices. He is passionate about service and previously led fundraising and clinic operations for the Kansas City Free Eye Clinic, supporting eye care for individuals experiencing homelessness. In clinic and the operating room, Dr. Patel treats macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal tears and detachment, epiretinal membranes, macular holes, and inherited and inflammatory retinal diseases. He enjoys partnering with patients and referring doctors, explaining imaging and treatment choices clearly, and tailoring care plans to restore and preserve sight.

Dr. Kunyong Xu

Dr. Kunyong Xu, MD, MHSc, FRCSC is a vitreoretinal surgeon who manages medical and surgical diseases of the retina. He is board certified in both the United States and Canada and provides comprehensive, evidence-based care for conditions such as age-related macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease, retinal detachment, and complex surgical retina problems. Patients value his careful evaluation, clear communication, and steady presence throughout treatment and recovery. Dr. Xu earned a master’s degree in Epidemiology from the University of Toronto and his medical degree from McMaster University. He completed ophthalmology residency at Queen’s University in Canada and a medical and surgical retina fellowship at Weill Cornell Medicine in New York City, training with internationally recognized specialists. His scholarly interests include macular degeneration, proliferative vitreoretinopathy, infectious endophthalmitis, and advancing surgical techniques.
