Meet Dr. Esen Akpek
About Me
Dr. Esen K. Akpek is an ocular immunologist and ophthalmologist at Duke Eye Center in Durham, North Carolina. She specializes in treating a wide variety of eye conditions, including inflammatory eye disease, ocular rosacea, ocular surface disease, scleritis, corneal disease, dry eyes, and uveitis. Dr. Akpek also performs cataract surgery and corneal transplant surgery to help restore and preserve vision.
Dr. Akpek serves as Professor of Ophthalmology and Division Chief of Ocular Immunology. She completed a fellowship in Cornea and External Diseases at Johns Hopkins University and a fellowship in Ocular Immunology and Uveitis at Massachusetts Eye & Ear Infirmary. Her residency in ophthalmology was at Ankara Numune Hospital, and she earned her medical degree from Hacettepe University. Dr. Akpek sees adult patients and communicates in English.
