About Me

Dr. Emil Anthony Ty Say is a fully licensed ophthalmologist and vitreoretinal surgeon at the South Carolina Retina Institute. He began his career in private practice in 2013 and today specializes in the treatment and surgical management of complex vitreoretinal diseases. His expertise includes macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease, retinal vein and artery occlusions, retinal detachment, macular holes, epiretinal membrane, and various disorders of the macula, retina, and vitreous.

Dr. Say has extensive fellowship training, having completed an ocular oncology fellowship at Wills Eye Institute, a vitreoretinal surgery fellowship at the University of North Carolina, and a pediatric vitreoretinal surgery fellowship at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. He previously served as an assistant professor at the Medical University of South Carolina Storm Eye Institute, managing complex retinal disorders in both adults and children. Dr. Say has published extensively and remains actively involved in advancing medical care related to eye cancer, inherited retinal diseases, and advanced retinal treatments.

Having moved to South Carolina after practicing in Philadelphia and growing up in the Philippines, Dr. Say looks forward to caring for patients at the South Carolina Retina Institute. He is a member of several professional societies including the American Society of Retina Specialists, American Academy of Ophthalmology, International Society of Ocular Oncology, and International Retinal Imaging Society.
