Dr. Mauricio Pereira

Dr. Mauricio Bastos Pereira, MD, PhD is a vitreoretinal surgery sub-subspecialist who cares for the full spectrum of retina and vitreous disease. Trained in Brazil at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro and the Federal University of São Paulo (UNIFESP), he has performed thousands of eye surgeries and is recognized for advancing blindness prevention and retina care through extensive clinical work, teaching, and research. His academic career includes service as faculty and mentor to hundreds of ophthalmologists, peer-review for noted journals, and award-winning investigations into retinal adhesion and advanced imaging, including indocyanine green video angiography for blunt traumatic chorioretinopathy. At MUSC Health’s Storm Eye Institute, Dr. Pereira focuses on surgical and medical management of complex retinal disorders, complications after cataract surgery, and macular disease.
