About Me
Dr. Derek Kunimoto is an ophthalmologist specializing in retinal diseases, serving Arizona for over 20 years. He graduated summa cum laude from Harvard College and with honors from Harvard Medical School, then earned a law degree with honors from Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar. He completed his medical internship at Massachusetts General Hospital and his ophthalmology residency at Wills Eye Hospital, where he served as co-chief resident. Dr. Kunimoto was the managing partner at Retinal Consultants of Arizona and founded the Retina and Vision Institute of Arizona in 2024.
Dr. Kunimoto is passionate about delivering the best eye care and places utmost importance on his patients' vision. He strives to make every patient comfortable and well-informed about their condition. He takes time to explain conditions and treatment options, understanding that retinal diseases can cause anxiety. Outside of medicine, he enjoys traveling with his wife and two children, barbequing, and hiking.
