About Me
Dr. Cynthia Xin Ya Qian is an ophthalmologist and vitreoretinal surgeon who cares for conditions affecting the retina, including inherited retinal disorders. She has been on faculty at the University of Montreal since 2015 and serves as Director of the Electrophysiology Laboratory as well as the Pediatric Retina Service.
Dr. Qian has particular expertise in retinal dystrophy and advanced surgical approaches, including the implantation of retinal chips and prostheses. Her work also includes the evaluation and management of complex retinal disease in both children and adults, with a focus on careful diagnostic testing and long-term care planning.
She completed medical school at McGill University, ophthalmology residency at the University of Montreal, and pursued additional fellowship training in vitreoretinal surgery at Massachusetts Eye & Ear Infirmary–Harvard Medical School, followed by fellowship training in retinal dystrophy and ocular genetics at the University of Michigan Kellogg Eye Center.
