Meet Dr. Cynthia Nix
About Me
Dr. Cynthia Nix is an American Board of Ophthalmology certified eye surgeon who joined West Georgia Eye Care Center in 2010. She is a fellowship-trained cornea specialist focusing on the surgical management of cataract and lens surgery, corneal transplantation, and laser refractive surgery (LASIK/PRK). Additionally, she manages diseases of the ocular surface such as dry eye, infections, tumors, and contact lens complications, and provides general ophthalmologic care.
Dr. Nix completed her undergraduate education at the University of Michigan, graduating magna cum laude with dual degrees in Cellular & Molecular Biology and Medieval & Renaissance Studies. She earned her medical degree from the University of Michigan Medical School, where she was a research scholar in the Howard Hughes Medical Institute – National Institutes of Health Program.
She completed a medicine internship, followed by ophthalmology residency and a cornea fellowship at the top-ranked Bascom Palmer Eye Institute. As a senior resident, she won first place in the American College of Eye Surgeons National Cataract Surgery Competition. Dr. Nix has conducted extensive research, resulting in publications and presentations at national conferences, and stays current with the latest ophthalmic surgical techniques.
