About Me
Dr. Ann Marie Arciniegas-Bernal’s clinical practice is focused on providing comprehensive pediatric ophthalmology care as well as adult strabismus evaluations and treatments. For pediatric patients, she diagnoses and treats conditions such as refractive errors, strabismus, amblyopia, ocular infections, trauma, uveitis, congenital cataracts, glaucoma, retinopathy of prematurity, and eyelid and orbit diseases like blocked tear ducts and chalazion. For adults, she evaluates and surgically treats all causes of strabismus, including recurrence from childhood or new onset due to thyroid dysfunction, myasthenia gravis, tumors, or stroke, utilizing an adjustable-suture technique for optimal alignment.
She is involved in collaborative clinical research with other UAB divisions, including trials on cystic fibrosis and retinopathy of prematurity, aiming to advance patient care through innovative studies.
Dr. Arciniegas-Bernal is board certified in ophthalmology and is a member of the American Academy of Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus and the American Academy of Ophthalmology. She is fluent in Spanish, which helps in serving a diverse patient population.
