About Me
Dr. Alvaro J. Mejia-Vergara is a neuro-ophthalmologist and strabismus surgeon at the University of Florida who cares for patients with vision symptoms arising from neurological and neuromuscular conditions. He emphasizes compassionate, science-driven evaluation of double vision, optic nerve disorders, and conditions such as idiopathic intracranial hypertension and thyroid eye disease. In addition to adult neuro-ophthalmology, he performs strabismus surgery and collaborates closely with neurology and neurosurgery colleagues for comprehensive care.
Dr. Mejia-Vergara completed ophthalmology residency (chief resident) at Pontifical Xavierian University in Bogotá, followed by neuro-ophthalmology training at UCLA and the University of Florida. He is active in the North American Neuro-Ophthalmology Society and the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and he enjoys teaching and mentoring within the College of Medicine.
