About Me
Dr. Taylor is a board-certified ophthalmologist with an additional fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery. He grew up in Montgomery and knew from an early age he wanted to be a doctor, embarking on a 14-year training journey to become a vitreoretinal surgeon. His commitment brought him to West Alabama to fill a critical need for specialized eye care.
He completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Alabama, graduating summa cum laude. He then earned his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Alabama School of Medicine at Birmingham, also graduating summa cum laude. His training included a medical/surgical internship, an ophthalmology residency where he served as First Chief Resident, and a two-year surgical retina fellowship.
In 1997, Dr. Taylor moved to Tuscaloosa to become the only full-time retina doctor for the community and West Alabama. He and his family have been full-time residents since then. He shares on-call duties with other ophthalmologists, cares for premature babies with retinopathy of prematurity in the NICU, and remains on staff at the Callahan Eye Foundation Hospital/UAB where he teaches residents and physicians in training. He has numerous publications and has lectured nationally and internationally.
