About Me
Dr. John O. Mason III is a board-certified ophthalmologist and vitreoretinal surgeon with over two decades of experience. He serves as Vice President of Retina Consultants of Alabama and holds academic appointments at the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine, where he is an Associate Professor and Director of the Retina Service. Dr. Mason is also the Program Director for the Retina Consultants of Alabama Vitreoretinal Fellowship Program.
He completed a fellowship in vitreoretinal disease and surgery at Wills Eye Hospital and an ophthalmology residency at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Dr. Mason treats a wide range of retinal conditions, including diabetic retinopathy, retinal detachment, and macular degeneration. He is actively involved in clinical research and has published numerous manuscripts. Additionally, Dr. Mason participates in humanitarian efforts through the Diabetic Eye Clinic of Alabama and international medical missions.
