About Me
Dr. Richard Hwang is a board-certified ophthalmologist and vitreoretinal surgeon specializing in retinal diseases and surgery at Southwest Retina Consultants in El Paso, Texas. He provides comprehensive medical and surgical care for conditions affecting the retina and vitreous, including age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal detachment, and macular holes.
Dr. Hwang completed his M.D. and a Ph.D. in neurobiology at Duke University, followed by an ophthalmology residency at Vanderbilt University and a vitreoretinal fellowship at the University of Colorado. His dual degree training and research background in both basic science and clinical research enable him to bring a rigorous, evidence-based approach to patient care.
Outside of his practice, Dr. Hwang enjoys spending time with his wife and four young children, which he feels enriches his understanding of the importance of clear vision and quality of life for his patients.
