About Me

Dr. Anindya Jay Samanta is a vitreoretinal surgeon dedicated to helping patients preserve and restore sight with clear communication and thoughtful, individualized care. Raised in Houston, he earned a B.S. in Cell Biology & Biochemistry from Rice University and completed medical school at the Paul L. Foster School of Medicine in El Paso, where he was inducted into Alpha Omega Alpha. He then pursued ophthalmology residency at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, serving as chief resident, followed by advanced fellowship training in vitreoretinal disease and surgery at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. After fellowship, Dr. Samanta returned to the Borderplex to join Southwest Retina Consultants, where he cares for the full spectrum of medical and surgical retina conditions. His academic interests include retinal imaging, eye care for people experiencing homelessness, and home-based vision assessment; he has presented nationally and received recognition for this work. Outside the clinic, he enjoys cheering on the Houston Rockets and time with his pets.
