About Me
Dr. Nita Valikodath, MD, MS is a vitreoretinal surgeon at Michigan Medicine who treats the full spectrum of medical and surgical retina disease in adults and children. Her practice includes complex retinal detachment repair, macular surgery and management of diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration and retinal vascular disorders. She also cares for pediatric retinal conditions such as retinopathy of prematurity, familial exudative vitreoretinopathy and Coats’ disease, and performs advanced procedures including scleral-fixated intraocular lenses when needed. In addition to caring for patients, Dr. Valikodath is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences. Her research interests include computer vision and artificial intelligence to enhance vitreoretinal surgery and pediatric retina screening, as well as robotic-assisted optical coherence tomography. She is known for clear communication, compassionate guidance and thoughtful, individualized care plans that help patients and families understand their options and move forward with confidence.
