About Me
Dr. Nicholas D. Marchase is a vitreoretinal surgeon and the founder of the South Carolina Retina Institute. As a board-certified and fellowship-trained specialist, he provides advanced surgical and medical care for conditions affecting the retina, macula, and vitreous of the eye. His clinical expertise includes macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease, retinal vein and artery occlusion, macular holes, retinal detachments, holes, tears, epiretinal membranes, trauma, and floaters.
Dr. Marchase completed one of the world's most rigorous surgical fellowships under the mentorship of Dr. Steve Charles, the lead designer of the Alcon Constellation surgical platform. During his training at the Charles Retina Institute and University of Tennessee, he served as the Team Ophthalmologist for the NBA's Memphis Grizzlies, gaining experience in sports-related eye care.
He earned his undergraduate degree from Vanderbilt University's School of Engineering, where he made the Dean's List, and his medical degree from the University of Alabama School of Medicine. Dr. Marchase completed his residency at Nassau University Medical Center as Chief Resident. Patients can schedule surgeries and procedures with him at South Carolina Retina Institute, the Surgery Center of Conway, or the Grande Dunes Surgery Center. Outside of his practice, he enjoys time with his family and activities such as golf, fishing, and reading.
