Dr. Nathan Fischer

Nathan A. Fischer, MD, is a board-certified ophthalmologist specializing in diseases and surgery of the retina and vitreous at Cape Fear Retina. He earned his medical degree from the University of Colorado School of Medicine, completed an internal medicine internship at Brookwood Medical Center, and an ophthalmology residency at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where he was selected chief resident. He then completed a vitreoretinal surgery fellowship with Retina Consultants of Alabama/University of Alabama at Birmingham.

Dr. Fischer treats the full spectrum of retinal conditions, from age-related macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy to retinal tears and detachments, macular holes, and complications of vascular occlusions. He emphasizes clear communication, careful examination, and collaboration with patients and referring doctors to protect and improve sight. Outside of medicine, he enjoys time outdoors with his family.
