About Me
Dr. Mehdi Najafi is a retina specialist who treats conditions that affect the back of the eye and can threaten central vision. His clinical practice focuses on treating vision conditions such as age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, vascular disorders of the retina, and retinal detachment.
Dr. Najafi earned his medical degree from Tehran University of Medical Sciences and completed a PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at SUNY Upstate Medical University. He completed ophthalmology residency training at SUNY Upstate, serving as chief resident, and then completed a two-year fellowship in Medical and Surgical Disorders of Retina and Vitreous at the University of Minnesota. He is board certified and has published across basic, translational, and clinical research, including work involving retinal dystrophies, mechanisms of retinal detachment, and macular holes. He also enjoys teaching residents and fellows and continues this work at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center as a staff surgeon.
