About Me
Dr. Matthew S.J. Katz is a board-certified ophthalmologist and fellowship-trained vitreoretinal surgeon who joined Nashville General Hospital in 2020. He provides medical and surgical retina care, treating conditions such as diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration, and other retinal disorders. His expertise includes performing advanced procedures like intravitreal injections and managing complex retinal diseases.
Dr. Katz earned his medical degree from George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences and completed his internship at Lenox Hill Hospital. He then completed an ophthalmology residency at Montefiore Medical Center - Albert Einstein College of Medicine, where he served as Chief Resident and twice received the Ronald M. Burde Award for Excellence in Resident Research. His training culminated in a vitreoretinal surgery fellowship at the National Retina Institute.
He is an active member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Retina Surgeons, and the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology. Dr. Katz has also volunteered as a surgeon on medical missions in Africa, Southeast Asia, and South America, contributing to global eye health initiatives.
