About Me
Matthew Pfannenstiel, M.D., is a retina fellow at Retina Associates of Kentucky, serving patients in Lexington, KY. He diagnoses and treats the full spectrum of medical and surgical retina conditions, including diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, retinal tears and detachments, and complex macular disorders.
Dr. Pfannenstiel grew up in Lawrence, Kansas, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Behavioral Neuroscience from the University of Kansas. He then earned his medical degree from the University of Kansas School of Medicine in Kansas City and remained to complete an internship in Internal Medicine and his residency in Ophthalmology at the University of Kansas Medical Center. During residency, he was awarded the Nellie V. Warren Rising Star Award and was selected by the faculty to serve as Chief Resident during his final year.
He has presented his research on vitreoretinal surgery at several national conferences, including AAO, ASRS, and ARVO. Outside of ophthalmology, he enjoys playing guitar in a 1960s and 1970s cover band, golfing, and cheering on the Kansas Jayhawks and Kansas City Chiefs.
