Dr. Matthew Gillings

Dr. Matthew Gillings is a board-certified comprehensive ophthalmologist who provides full-scope medical and surgical eye care for patients in Central Texas. He grew up in Plano and returned home to join Waco Eye Associates in 2024. Dr. Gillings completed a biochemistry degree at The University of Texas at Dallas with highest academic honors, earned his MD at UT Southwestern Medical Center, and served his internship at WellStar Kennestone Regional Medical Center in Georgia. He then returned to UT Southwestern for ophthalmology residency, where he was selected as chief resident.

In clinic and the operating room, Dr. Gillings cares for a wide range of eye conditions with a particular interest in cataract surgery and glaucoma disease management. He offers modern cataract procedures, including advanced technology intraocular lenses, and performs minimally invasive glaucoma surgery when appropriate. Patients appreciate his straightforward communication, thoughtful counseling, and focus on clear outcomes—whether they need routine care or help with more complex problems.
