About Me
Dr. Matthew D. Smith is a board-certified ophthalmic physician and surgeon at Williamson Eye Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He specializes in cataract and refractive surgery, LASIK, and the treatment and surgical management of glaucoma, providing comprehensive eye care to patients in the Baton Rouge area.
A native of Baton Rouge, Dr. Smith graduated with honors from Catholic High School and earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Sciences from Louisiana State University with Magnum Cum Laude distinction. He graduated in the top one-third of his class from LSU Medical School in Shreveport and completed his ophthalmology residency at LSU, serving as chief resident in 2013. He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, which helps him stay at the leading edge of professional practice.
Dr. Smith is an active volunteer with Project Purr and Cat Haven, and his commitment to community service began in his youth as an Eagle Scout, supporting the local chapter of The Missionaries of Charity. In his free time, he enjoys LSU sports, bowling, spending time with friends and family, and is an avid Chicago Cubs and New Jersey Devils hockey fan.
