About Me
Dr. Kyle Piwonka is a board-certified vitreoretinal surgeon at Four Corners Eye Clinic, which serves men and women from Utah, Arizona, and nearby cities such as Farmington, New Mexico. He specializes in conditions affecting the retina and vitreous, including the diagnosis and management of dry and wet macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease, inflammation of the eye (uveitis), repair of retinal tears and detachment, ocular trauma, epiretinal membranes, and macular holes. Dr. Piwonka is certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Ophthalmology and is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and a fellow of the American Society of Retina Specialists. He has given academic presentations at forums around the country and published with Retina Today.
Dr. Piwonka grew up in the western Texas city of San Angelo. He completed his undergraduate degree in Biomedical Science at Texas A&M University, graduating Magna cum laude. He earned his medical degree from the University of North Texas Health Science Center in Fort Worth, graduating with honors. After medical school, he completed a Transitional Year Internship at St. John Providence Health System in Detroit and then trained in Ophthalmology at Michigan State University, where he was selected to serve as Clinical Chief Resident.
Following residency, Dr. Piwonka completed a two-year Vitreoretinal Medicine and Surgical fellowship at Valley Retina Institute in southern Texas. While there he actively participated in clinical studies investigating therapeutic interventions for wet and dry macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease, and retinal vein occlusion. Before joining Four Corners Eye Clinic, Dr. Piwonka practiced in Cheyenne, Wyoming; Bozeman, Montana; and Tulsa, Oklahoma. Outside of work, he enjoys quality time spent in the outdoors with his family and friends while hiking, backpacking, and running. Live music, college football, and grilling are also some of his passions.
