About Me
Dr. Karen Sumers is a board-certified, fellowship-trained ophthalmologist specializing in corneal and external eye disease, including severe dry eye syndrome. She provides comprehensive eye care and is recognized for her expertise in diagnosing and treating complex corneal conditions. Dr. Sumers is dedicated to offering personalized treatment plans and advanced surgical options for patients with corneal disorders and chronic dry eye.
Dr. Sumers completed her ophthalmology residency at the University of Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary, where she received the Jack P. Cowen Outstanding Clinician prize. She then pursued a fellowship in corneal and external eye disease at Emory University. As an Adjunct Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at Emory, she volunteers her time teaching cataract surgery to residents at the Atlanta Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Dr. Sumers is a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, a member of the Cornea Society, and a past president of the Atlanta Ophthalmology Society.
In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Sumers has been an investigator for the Cornea Donor Study and received the Lifetime Volunteer Physician Award from EyeCare America for her commitment to providing eye exams to seniors. She is a supporter of the Sjogren’s Syndrome Foundation and the Georgia Lions Lighthouse. Dr. Sumers sees patients at the Georgia Eye Partners Northside location in Atlanta.
