About Me
Dr. Julia Byrd is a board-certified pediatric ophthalmologist who cares for children and adults with strabismus across the Tampa Bay area. She diagnoses and treats amblyopia, eye misalignment, pediatric cataracts, tear duct disorders, retinopathy of prematurity, pediatric uveitis, congenital eye conditions, and ocular trauma. Families appreciate her calm, thorough explanations and her focus on creating treatment plans that work in real life for growing kids and busy caregivers.Originally from New Mexico, Dr. Byrd graduated cum laude in Molecular and Cellular Biology from Vanderbilt University and earned her medical degree from the University of New Mexico School of Medicine. She completed ophthalmology residency at the John A. Moran Eye Center, University of Utah, and advanced fellowship training in pediatric ophthalmology and adult strabismus at Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, D.C. Before settling in Florida, she cared for children at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and later practiced in Montana. Dr. Byrd is committed to friendly, accessible, and precise care—whether prescribing glasses, guiding patching therapy, or performing delicate eye surgery.
