About Me
Dr. Joseph Civantos specializes in the medical and surgical treatment of diseases of the retina and vitreous. He treats conditions such as macular degeneration, retinal detachment, diabetic retinopathy, eye trauma, and retinopathy of prematurity. Dr. Civantos has been with Illinois Retina Associates since 1994 and serves as an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago.
Dr. Civantos completed his undergraduate studies at Harvard College, earned his medical degree from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, and trained in ophthalmology at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute. He went on to complete a retina-vitreous fellowship at Rush University Medical Center and is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. He has participated in numerous clinical studies and has published research in academic specialty journals.
Recognized as one of the "Best Doctors in America" and in the "Guide to America's Top Ophthalmologists," Dr. Civantos sees patients at Illinois Retina's Harvey office as well as other area locations.
