About Me

John Hinkle, MD, is a retina specialist dedicated to delivering thoughtful, evidence-based care for conditions that threaten central vision. At the Retina Center of Vermont in South Burlington, he diagnoses and treats macular and retinal disease using advanced imaging and in-office therapies, and provides timely surgical care when needed. Patients value his clear communication, calm approach, and commitment to preserving sight. Dr. Hinkle attended Yale University for college and earned his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania. He completed an ophthalmology residency at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute and a fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery at Wills Eye Hospital. His clinical interests include age-related macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease, retinal tears and detachments, macular holes, and other macular disorders. Working closely with referring optometrists and ophthalmologists, Dr. Hinkle focuses on individualized treatment plans that balance safety, recovery, and long-term outcomes.
