About Me
Dr. John E. Thordsen is a board-certified ophthalmologist specializing in vitreo-retinal surgery at North Carolina Retina Associates. He treats conditions such as retinal detachments, diabetic retinopathy, and macular degeneration, among other retinal disorders. Dr. Thordsen's extensive training includes a fellowship in vitreo-retinal surgery at Emory University and a residency at Walter Reed Army Medical Center.
With over 14 years of active duty in the U.S. Army, Dr. Thordsen served as a vitreo-retinal surgeon and led humanitarian eye surgical missions in Latin America and Africa. He continues to consult with the military on humanitarian efforts. Dr. Thordsen is fluent in English and Spanish, and he is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Retina Specialists.
