Dr. Jaya Kumar

Dr. Jaya B. Kumar is a board-certified, fellowship-trained vitreoretinal specialist who provides personalized care for patients with a wide range of retinal conditions. She joined Florida Retina Institute in August 2018 and cares for patients with problems such as macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal tears, retinal detachment, macular holes, and retinal vein occlusions.

Dr. Kumar completed her ophthalmology residency at Duke University and a vitreoretinal surgery fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation. She has participated in numerous research projects with a particular interest in ophthalmic imaging and retinal disease, and she has presented at national conferences and authored peer-reviewed publications and book chapters.

A passionate advocate for mental health awareness and suicide prevention, Dr. Kumar and her family participate annually in the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention’s Out of the Darkness Walk. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her family, dancing, traveling, and exploring new cultures.
