About Me
Dr. Matthew Cunningham is a board-certified, fellowship-trained vitreoretinal specialist at Florida Retina Institute, focusing on personalized care for retinal conditions. He treats macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal tears, detached retina, macular holes, and retinal vein occlusions. With extensive research experience, he serves as the Research Director and principal investigator for multiple clinical trials advancing treatments for diabetic eye disease.
Dr. Cunningham completed his ophthalmology residency at Baylor College of Medicine’s Cullen Eye Institute and a vitreoretinal surgery fellowship at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology and has been recognized as a Fellow of the American Society of Retina Specialists. He joined Florida Retina Institute in 2013 and is available at several Central Florida locations.
