About Me
Dr. J. Matthew Rouse is a glaucoma specialist who also provides care for cataract and refractive surgery. An East Tennessee native, he joined University Eye Specialists in 2011 after completing his training. He is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and holds a clinical assistant professor appointment at the University of Tennessee Medical Center.
Dr. Rouse is dedicated to helping patients through serious eye diseases like glaucoma, focusing on saving vision while building trusted relationships. He chose this field after witnessing the profound effect an ophthalmologist could have in restoring quality of life during a medical school trip. He values working with a team of ethical professionals who make the right decisions for patients.
Born and raised in Oak Ridge, Dr. Rouse enjoys living in East Tennessee for the access to outdoor activities like hiking and fishing. He is a lifelong Tennessee fan and an avid runner. He and his wife are members of Sevier Heights Baptist Church and have three daughters.
