About Me
Dr. Heather M. Tamez is a retina specialist and vitreoretinal surgeon who cares for patients with a wide range of vitreoretinal diseases. Her clinical focus includes diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, retinal tears and detachments, macular holes and puckers, and retinal vascular disorders.
Dr. Tamez also has extensive experience managing ocular trauma and complications after cataract surgery, including situations where an intraocular lens could not be placed during the initial operation. In addition, she treats uveitis and other inflammatory conditions that can affect any part of the eye and may require immunosuppressive therapy. She emphasizes patient education and shared decision-making so treatment plans are both manageable and aligned with long-term vision goals.
She earned her B.A. at Kenyon College and her M.D. at The Ohio State University College of Medicine. She completed ophthalmology residency training at Vanderbilt University Medical Center/Vanderbilt Eye Institute (Co-Chief Resident) and a vitreoretinal fellowship there as a Gass Fellow.
