Dr. Gabriel Aguilar

Dr. Aguilar is a comprehensive ophthalmologist with a subspecialty in ophthalmic plastic surgery. He serves as a Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of California, San Francisco. In his practice, he provides routine eye exams and manages a wide array of eye conditions, including cataracts, glaucoma, and dry eye syndrome. He performs various cataract surgery techniques, such as routine lens replacement, toric lens implants, extended range of focus implants, and multifocal lens implants. Additionally, Dr. Aguilar specializes in both cosmetic and reconstructive eyelid surgeries, addressing issues like ptosis (droopy eyelids), eyelid cancers, entropion, ectropion, and blocked tear ducts through dacryocystorhinostomy.

After earning his medical degree from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), Dr. Aguilar completed an internship in internal medicine and a residency in general surgery at UCLA-Harbor General Hospital. He then undertook an ophthalmology residency at Stanford University Medical Center and achieved board certification from the American Board of Ophthalmology. His training culminated in a fellowship in oculoplastic surgery at Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia, leading to membership in the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.

Dr. Aguilar entered private practice in San Francisco, where he has been serving patients for many years. He holds clinical faculty appointments at both Stanford University and the University of California, San Francisco. For over 25 years, he has taught ophthalmology residents and fellows at UCSF-run San Francisco General Hospital, earning the Crowell Beard Excellence in Teaching Award from UCSF for his dedication to education.
